There are many good reasons to join the Gog Magog Golf Club.
The Members
- The Club has a very active and diverse membership, and there is a form of golf to suit everyone.
- Just sign up and join in; you will be warmly welcomed.
Great Competitive Golf
- The Gogs is a friendly, traditional club with many opportunities for competitive play for all (men, women, juniors and elders)
- Competitions take place every Wednesday and Saturday; there are formal and informal club matches at all levels and a range of seasonal knock outs and leagues in the summer and winter.
- We organize men’s and ladies’ competitions on different courses which certainly promotes harmony between the genders!
- The two courses bring variety and contrast to our competitions. There is normally plenty of room on the day for social golf.
Great Social Golf
- There is a very healthy social golf scene. You’ll find several ‘roll-up’ sessions during the week and our friendly new members' events.
- The courses alternate daily between four ball and two or three ball pace of play. Consequently rounds of golf at the Gogs are usually speedy and with little delay, nearly always less than four hours.
- Both courses, The Old and The Wandlebury, boast some of the best views in Cambridge, so come and experience them and their golfing challenges.
Readily Available Golf
- It is very easy to get a tee time and golfers rarely have to wait on days when there are no tee reservations.
- If a visiting society has booked a day’s golf or there is a competition booked to play on one course, members play on the other course.
- The courses roam over free-draining chalk hills. The porous sub-soil means play takes place virtually all year round; the courses do not suffer from waterlogging that can affect lower lying courses, particularly in the winter months.
Excellent Facilities
- The practice facilities are second to none in the area: a fully equipped driving range, chipping and bunker practice areas and separate practice putting greens that reflect the types of greens found on the two courses.
- The club professional Ian Bamborough and his professional team of expert assistants, which includes a lady pro provide a great service in the Pro's Shop. They offer sound advice, quality equipment and apparel, and a range of lessons and tuition using the latest technology.
- The clubhouse social areas take some beating. The warm and friendly Lounge and Bar provide welcome respite after a challenging 18 (or 36!) holes, with a drink from the well stocked bar and a good choice of freshly prepared snacks and light meals. There is an excellent buffet available on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The light and airy dining room caters for more formal dining requirements.
